The Kaps story begins over a century ago in the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts, where American textile production grew into a world-class industry.
In the year 1885 the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York City, the first photographic film was introduced and Elias Kapelson opened a modest haberdashery.
Elias, who was raised and educated in Europe, made a name for himself by offering quality garments that reflected the local and international styles of the day. He treated customers like family and he passed on this standard of service to his son, David, who joined the business in the 1920s.
Kaps’s tradition of providing fine garments with the most attentive of service continued under David's Son, Dick.
Today, Dick's three sons, Jon, Jim and Joel continue the tradition established by their great grandfather, Elias Kapelson. The original haberdashery has evolved into four elegant stores serving customers in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
Although a lot has changed since Elias opened his shop, the founding values of the family business have stayed the same. All of the Kaps stores reflect a passion for service, a commitment to quality and a timeless, enduring style.
